founded
22 years
ago with
the
radical
notion
that
placement
should
be
driven
by human
resources
principles
and not
by sales
and
numbers.
Until
that
time,
employment
agencies
were
basically
staffed
by sales
people
who
focused
on sales
and
managed
by the
numbers.
The
founder
of CUI,
Arlette
Dumais,
had
worked
on the
other
side of
the desk
in human
resources,
which
included
working
with
staffing
firms to
fill
positions.
It was
this
eye-opening
experience
that
would
eventually
shape
her
belief
that
placement
should
be about
human
resources
and not
about
filling
quotas.
In
September
1985 she
set
about
testing
her
theory
that if
she
focused
on
placement
as human
resources,
the
numbers
and
sales
would
logically
follow.
It was
slow
going at
first
and it
was
financially
painful.
She had
to turn
down
placements
(and
much
needed
fees)
because
they
weren’t
the
right
fit,
only to
find out
later
that a
competitor
had
placed
the same
candidate
in the
position.
When the
client
called
back
months
later
because
the
candidate
didn’t
work
out,
Arlette’s
integrity
and
CUI’s
reputation
soared.
